The Hobbit

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is by far the best book I have ever read. It was published by George Allen & Unwin in 1937, Great Britain. It is an interesting book that has a style not seen in many other books.

The Hobbit is about Bilbo Baggins, an unambitious hobbit (a race of extremely short people), who lives in his Hobbit Hole in the neighbourhood of The Hill. He is a peaceful Hobbit. That doesn’t want anything to do with adventures or anything of that sort thinking they are just a waste of time. But that all changes when one day Gandalf the wizard arrives and with him Thorin and Co. a group of dwarves searching for someone to be the fourteenth member for their group, that is going on an adventure to reclaim the gold of their ancestors stolen from them by the greedy Smaug the Magnificent. Far from home and never truly safe, Bilbo encounters many evil creatures like: trolls, goblins, wargs (a race of intelligent giant wolves) and with very little food all throughout the journey. Although he meets some good races such as the Elves, Beorn (a man that can change into a bear) and the great eagles of the misty mountains. All of which help in the battle of the five armies a historic battle with Dwarves, Elves and Men fighting Goblins and Wargs. A battle that Bilbo and Thorin and Co. are stuck in.

Bilbo is always very peaceful and not much good until he surprises everyone with his skills in combat and burglary, saving the dwarves many times from spiders to mistrustful forest elves. Bilbo is selected by Gandalf to be the burglar for Thorin and Co.’s group. A choice that Bilbo has no say in. With very little expertise to show for the dwarves soon begin to doubt Gandalf’s decision. They realize their mistake during the journey, though.

All in all, I found The Hobbit to be a very good book and exciting to read. A book that you don’t want to put down. It’s immersive story has you wondering how they will escape many perils from the very beginning. I would recommend this to everyone from the age of nine and up. Also if you read The Hobbit and enjoy it (like I did) you might like the trilogy of The Lord of The Rings also by J.R.R. Tolkien.
